Eph 5:15-21 Making a thankful melody in our heart
1 Thess 5:16-18 Giving thanks always
Some of the reasons being always thankful is hard
1) Pride – A self-made man worshiping his creator
a. Proverbs 16:19 Better to be lowly and humble, then proud and rich
b. James 4:6 God resists the proud
2) Careless Complacency – Oh boy, Manna again.
a. Job 37:5 He does great things that we cannot comprehend
i. Smithsonian says we have around 37.2 trillion cells in our body
ii. 5x10^7 Cells in our little finger.
iii. 20 Trillion atoms in each cell
iv. 100 times the number of stars in the Milky Way
b. Psalms 96:3 Declare His glory
3) Negativity – Every silver lining has a cloud
a. Matt 12:33-37 What comes out of our mouths defines us
b. Heb 3:13 Exhort one another daily, to avoid a hardened heart
4) Anger – “The God I believe in is not so fragile that you hurt Him by being angry at Him, or so petty that He will hold it against you for being upset with Him.” Harold Kushner
a. Psalms 13:1-6 David shows he is upset with the Lord but still rejoices in Him
b. Matt 27:46 Christ asks why God has forsaken Him
Isaiah 58:10 Helping others improves our thankful attitude
